Wonderful Book for Tweens (and Adults) on the Edge

FotE recently took a COVID-safe road trip to Anza Borrego and Joshua Tree National Park, both of which I would recommend highly. On the way, we listened to several podcasts and audiobooks. A true highlight was Kate Dicamillo’s Louisiana’s Way Home, a delight of a story. This narrative – tremendously inventive and charming – follows Louisiana Elefante, whose granny believes the day of reckoning is here, and therefore, awakens Louisiana in the middle of the night to drive her away from her home to what granny thinks is safety. The story is tremendously creative with stops at a dentist’s office, a motel, and a funeral (here Louisiana is literally asked to sing for her supper).

The book is a beautiful one, exploring insanity, deceit, friendship, and humanity.
