If You Can’t Head To Kenya, Try A Moth Safari

One of the unusual aspects of the pandemic has been that, spending so much time in the same places, we’ve started to look more carefully at our environment.

It turns out sources of beauty abound if we only take the time to notice.

The NY Times had a photographic slideshow in late August entitled The Pleasures of Moth Watching.

It was, incongruously, in the Real Estate section instead of being a Science feature. If I think it through the section placement makes more sense – urban close quarters and high infection rates have driven the haves to leave the city and seek property in suburbs, where gardens will permit moth-watching (in contrast to NYC apartments).

Regardless, the feature led me to spend some time with my kids searching out and identifying moths during our summer tent camping trips.

Enjoy these beauties. Perhaps it will motivate you to take a closer look at places you may have taken for granted or assumed you know.
