Heartwarming Movie for Adults and Tweens Who are Inching Back from the Edge

I wrote earlier about Lupin, a heart pounding French thriller series on Netflix starring charismatic and talented Omar Sy. Before Lupin, Sy won a Cesar (sort of like a French Academy Award) for his role in Les Intouchables, a flick FotE happily watched this past week. (If you’re interested in reading more about Sy, check out this recent article about him in the New Yorker.)

Les Intouchables follows quadriplegic Philippe (played by Francois Cluzet), an uber wealthy aristocrat who lost his mobility in a paragliding accident. Driss (Omar Sy) becomes Philippe’s caregiver. Loosely based on a true story, the movie follows the characters’ unexpectedly warm relationship. There is both a great car chase and paragliding scene, but much of the film focuses on Philippe’s solo existence and Driss’ families woes. There is still a lot of levity to be found in the Odd Couple pairing, and despite some shortcomings, Les Intouchables is an entertaining flick.

(A brief critique of the film is worth reading in the New Yorker article referenced above.)
