I’ve mentioned before my adoration for Arrested Development, perhaps the funniest show ever made. (Yes, I know that the last two seasons were not as good as the first three, which were heavenly.) If you, too, are a fan of Will Arnett and Jason Bateman, I’d recommend you tune into Smartless, an interview-style podcast in which Arnett, Bateman, and Sean Hayes (Will and Grace) speak with celebrities like Melissa McCarthy, Ricky Gervais, Kamala Harris, and Ron Howard. Some episodes are more vulgar than others – the tone seems to depend on the interviewee – but so far, all have been fantastic and super funny.
The banter between Arnett and Bateman is the most entertaining, as you listen to old friends’ ribbing and small talk. It’s also instructive to hear how different celebrities’ careers have evolved and their take on fame, social media, cancel culture, dramatic versus comedic roles, and their personal lives. Enjoy!
