Two Good Documentaries for Adults and Tweens When You’re on the Edge

We recently purchased a projector we use to see movies out on our deck. Because of the pandemic, we haven’t had anyone inside the house, but watching a movie – physically distanced with a friend – is a fun treat. The FotE clan even goes out some nights – just the four of us – to watch movies for a change of pace since we can’t go to theaters.

We recently saw the Social Dilemma, and although the movie includes some docudrama sections that I wasn’t crazy about, the interviews with tech experts on how the internet, social media, and smart phones manipulate our brains was interesting and scary to see. I’d recommend it for tweens more than adults; the flick did seem to have a positive impact on SotE and BotE.

Another good, recent documentary is My Octopus Teacher, a film about a South African filmmaker who forges a friendship with (and maybe even a crush on ) an octopus that he visits daily. The story is compelling, but beware: You will never eat tako again after viewing this film.
